You invested in Invisalign® aligners in Charlotte, NC because not only do you want a straighter smile, but you also want to improve your oral care/health. To get the best results from using Invisalign® aligners, you have to know how to clean and care for your retainers properly.
Cleaning Invisalign® Aligners
To clean your Invisalign® aligners, you will need a retainer brush or a toothbrush and denture or retainer cleaner. Once you’ve gathered these supplies, follow these steps:
- Use water that isn’t too hot or too cold to rinse off your aligners.
- Put toothpaste on your retainer brush or toothbrush. Then, using small, circular motions, brush the aligners inside and out.
- After you have brushed the aligners, rinse them off using lukewarm water.
- Look for any tartar buildup or calcium on any part of your aligners.
If you notice a buildup on your Invisalign® aligners, you will need to use the denture or retainer cleaner to eliminate this buildup completely clean your aligners.
Proper Invisalign® Care Techniques
Regular cleaning using the steps listed above is an important part of taking good care of your Invisalign® aligners, but there are also other care guidelines you should follow to keep them in good shape. For example, every time you eat, remove your retainers and try to brush your teeth before putting them back in your mouth. This will prevent food particles from getting stuck in your aligners and causing bad breath or tooth decay.
You should also remember that your aligners are made from resin, which is a type of plastic. For this reason, never rinse them with boiling or extremely hot water as doing so can distort their shape.
